Hello, and a very warm welcome to my website!  It’s just great to have you here!

I'm Claudia Contessini.  I'm an Australian lesbian psychotherapist, relationship and sex therapist and
life coach, with a Ph.D. in Human Sexuality.  I've established an international coaching and therapy organization, and together with the professionals I've trained, work by phone with clients all over the world. A great deal of my time is also spent conducting research and creating personal development programs for lesbians, as part of my Life Mastery for Lesbians project.

My Background

I've been working to make the world a better place for lesbians since 1969, when I co-founded the first public lesbian organization in Australia - a branch of the US lesbian organization Daughters of Bilitis. I was the contact person for the group.

In that context, I spoke with literally thousands of lesbians who wanted to join us. Most were absolutely terrified - it was all they could do to stay on the phone when they called. Many had experienced dreadful psychiatric interventions, and homophobia in its various forms had pretty much destroyed their lives. This experience - at the age of nineteen - shaped my life. I've been putting a great deal of my energy into changing things for us since then.

More Recently

i completed my PhD in the USA early in 2000.  My research was around various aspects of lesbian sex, and female sexual arousal.  I have always been aware of the lack of research relevant to our lives as lesbians, but during my years of doctoral research I noticed it daily.  Early in 2004 I established the Online Institute for Lesbian Research to fill some of these gaps and to inform the development of my Life Mastery for Lesbians program.
