Internalized Homophobia
may be our greatest enemy..
Internalized homophobia is the negative feelings we may have about ourselves as lesbians, gay men, or bisexuals. It is a result of constant exposure to the homophobia that pervades our world.
A Note from Claudia:
"One of the greatest challenges we face as lesbians is learning to deal with all the negative and damaging anti-homosexual comments and attitudes most of us are exposed to on a daily basis. It is simply a fact that if we hear something often enough, it sinks in. We internalize sociey's homophobia.
For this reason I spent many months reading all the research on this subject, doing some of my own, and creating a program designed to raise our awareness of this "enemy within", and to help us to eliminate it".
Internalized homophobia is so far very little recognized in our communities, yet research shows that it can:
* Negatively impact or even destroy our intimate relationships.
* Affect our ability to make love with our partner
* Adversely affect our physical health
* Undermine our self-esteem
* Inhibit our progress in our chosen occupation
* Leave us more vulnerable to homophobic attack.
"Living Our Potential" is a highly effective, research-based program which increases our awareness of this enemy within... and provides us with the tools to fight it.
